POCASSET, MA (August 14, 2025) – Edgewater Strategy Group (“Edgewater”), a boutique advisory firm specializing in M&A, capital raises and Office of the CFO services, today announced that it supported Axius Water (“Axius”), a portfolio company of KKR’s Global Impact Fund and XPV Water Partners, as an embedded buy-side deal team on three add-on acquisitions: MITA Water Technologies, Aero-Mod and S&N Airoflo.
Based in Pocasset, Massachusetts, Axius was established in 2019 by KKR’s Global Impact Fund together with XPV Water Partners to unite specialist wastewater-treatment brands around nutrient removal, which helps keep the excess nitrogen and phosphorus that fuel harmful algal blooms out of rivers, lakes and coastal waters. Between September 2024 and August 2025, Axius completed three add-on acquisitions that expanded its European footprint and added complementary filtration, packaged-treatment and aeration technologies to the platform.
The first, announced in September 2024, was MITA Water Technologies, a filtration and treatment specialist based in Siziano, Italy, and previously part of MITA Group. The two companies had worked together since 2022, with Axius producing MITA’s pile cloth filters at its Columbia, Missouri plant for customers in North America. In January 2025, Axius acquired Aero-Mod, a Kansas-based provider of packaged mechanical and biological treatment plants for low- to medium-flow municipal and industrial sites. In August 2025, it added S&N Airoflo, a Mississippi-based maker of floating brush rotors that aerate and mix oxidation ditches and lagoons while using less power.
Edgewater worked as an embedded extension of the Axius deal team on all three acquisitions through signing and close. Across the three deals, its work spanned investment memoranda, investment committee and board materials, financial and working-capital diligence and integrated financial models, as well as the coordination of third-party advisors across quality of earnings, legal, tax, environmental and commercial diligence.
“The logic behind Axius was that nutrient removal is not one problem but many, and operators need a different answer for a large city plant than for a rural lagoon. Each of these deals filled a specific gap: MITA brought a proven filtration line and an established Italian business, Aero-Mod brought packaged plants for low- and medium-flow sites, and S&N Airoflo brought low-energy aeration for oxidation ditches and lagoons. Working inside the Axius deal team, we pressure-tested each thesis through diligence, and each one held up.”
